Vicente María Epifanio López Madrigal(April 5, 1880 – 1972) was a successful Filipino Business tycoon,industrialist and politician. He is the grandfather of former Senator Maria Ana Consuelo Madrigal-Valade.

Early life

He was born in Ligao, Albay in 1880. He was the only son of Don Jose Maria Madrigal from Barcelona, Spain, and a Catalan migrant and Doña Macaria Lopez, a Spanish Mestiza. He studied at Colegio de San Juan de Letran.

Business career

Vicente Madrigal entreneurship led to the establishment of businesses in in coal, oil, sugar, cement, shipping, and real estate.[2] . Susana his wife was equally industrious, establishing a dress and jewelry shop while dabbling also in real estate. Before the war he acquired 11,000 hectare hacienda in Canlubang, Laguna. Mrs Madrigal was equally adept and she recognized the possibilities of Alabang. Today its mango trees are her visible legacies in the mini-city.

Political career

On 1941,Madrigal won in 1941 Senate Election under the banner of Nacionalista Party of Incumbent President Manuel L. Quezon.The Congress opened its session on June 9, 1945 but he was not able to serve due to Colaboration Charges.He had been part of the Japanese Sponsored Republic of Jose P. Laurel together with senators Claro M. Recto, Eulogio A. Rodriguez, Sr.,Emiliano Tria Tirona, Quintin Paredes,Prospero Sebastian,Antonio delas Alas and Jose Yulo who appointed Chief Justice during the war. When Manuel Roxas was elected president on 1946,he,together with other collaborators was pardoned.He was re-elected on 1947 under the banner of Liberal Party.He ran again on 1953 but he lost.

Family Life

He was married to Susana Paterno and they have seven children Macaria, Pacita[3] who served as senator from 1955 until 1961, Josefina, Antonio, Jose, Consuelo Alejandra, and Maria Luisa.

Death

He died on 1972.

Vicente Madrigal National High School

On 1992,a public school in Binangonan, Rizal was built and It was named after him,the Vicente Madrigal Municipal High School which eventually converted to a National High School.
